People Against Youth on Drugs
Today we make the difference, Tomorrow they do

Today we make the difference, tomorrow they do
President's Corner

As the president of People Against Youth on Drugs, I believe that understanding the issues that our youth face is imperative.  In order to make a difference in one's life we must first know where they are coming from.  And I know firsthand about the trials that our young people are going through;  the peer pressure when growing up on the streets; the feeling that there is no one to turn to for help; the feeling of isolation from parents, teachers, police, counsellors, and anyone who is not a part of that "immediate circle."  Yes,  I know firsthand because I've been there.

As a young boy growing up in the projects I thought it was more important to be the toughest in the class instead of the smartest.  It was more meaningful to win a fight than a scholastic award.  The letters on my clothes meant more then the letters on my report card.  My way of thinking was not that of a child with dreams, goals and ambitions.  It was that of a troubled and angry child.  As a result of my early childhood views, no father in the home, and the mentoring pimps and drug dealers within my demographics, I was prone to get myself into trouble.   And that I did.

People Against Youth on Drugs was founded by an individual who is in touch with the reality of hard life.  Built by the experience of an individual who has seen and experienced many things in life.  As a result of my past and where God has brought me from, I have dedicated my life to helping young people so that they will not have to go through the same things that I've endured.

Let us join hands and make a difference in the lives of our young people.  Too many of them are going astray and getting caught up in the criminal justice system because they know no other way.  We can show them another way.  A way which leads to prosperity and success.  A way which includes education, learning and equal opportunity employment.  Let us come together and help our youth become brighter stronger leaders in our community.
